Bed Bug Home Kits

Edmonton Bed Bug Exterminators
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has noticed a resurgence of bed bugs all over the world. These pests can travel with people as they go from place to place, which means they can be brought into homes from hotels or other people's houses without anyone realizing. Pets can also be carriers of bed bugs. If you have had to deal with an infestation, you know that it can be an annoying and costly task to get rid of them. To protect yourself, it is important to know as much as possible about bed bugs, to have a bed bug kit on hand, and to know when to call a professional exterminator.

What Are Bed Bugs?

Bed bugs are a nuisance to many people and can be found on every continent except Antarctica. They’ve even been known to hitch a ride on airplanes, making them difficult to control in densely populated areas. Bed bugs are small, brown insects that range in size from 1mm to 7mm. They feed off the blood of humans and animals, and while they are unpleasant to deal with, they are not known to carry any diseases.

Bed bugs typically live in areas where people sleep. They hide in cracks and crevices in beds, mattresses, furniture, walls, and floors. They can travel from place to place on luggage, clothing, and furniture, which makes them even harder to control. To get rid of a bed bug infestation, it’s important to identify the source and eliminate them. This can include vacuuming, steam cleaning, and using insecticides. If the infestation is severe, it may be necessary to hire a professional exterminator.

No matter what, bed bugs can be difficult to get rid of. It’s important to take steps to prevent their spread and to seek professional help if necessary. By taking the proper precautions, you can help protect yourself and your home from a bed bug invasion.

Signs of Bed Bugs

Many people discover they have bed bugs only after they notice bite marks. Bed bug bites are red and usually appear in a line. They may also be itchy and it can take up to 14 days for the bites to start to itch. Therefore, it is important to perform regular inspections in order to catch the presence of bed bugs at an earlier stage and prevent an infestation from occurring.

Fortunately, bed bugs at home are relatively easy to detect. Inspect your bed, sheets, and pillowcases for bloodstains and excrement. Bed bugs feed off blood, so their excrement will have a dark or rusty color. Additionally, bed bugs shed their skin several times before fully maturing, so eggshells, skin, and casings can be found around infested areas. If you notice a musty smell around your bedding, it is likely to be the scent glands from the bed bugs.

Do not be embarrassed if you find bed bugs in your home. Bed bugs will take residence in any warm and dark hiding spot they can find, regardless of how clean and tidy your house may be. This includes areas such as between joints in headboards, under mattresses, and even in the ruffles of curtains.

Bed Bug Kit

If you find yourself dealing with bed bugs, it's crucial to start by clearing out any mess in the affected room and isolating your bed. Having a bed bug kit at home can be useful for eliminating them, but if the problem persists, you may need to seek professional help. Heat treatment is currently the most reliable way to eradicate bed bugs. Your bed bug control and treatment kit should include certain items, and with it you may be able to get rid of the bed bugs yourself.

Plastic Bags

Once you suspect you have bed bugs, you must collect all fabric items in the affected area, such as clothes, sheets, curtains, and towels. Securely tie the bags and keep them tied until you can wash them in hot water above 120°F. This temperature is crucial for killing all bed bugs and their eggs. After laundering the items, store them in new bags away from the contaminated area until you are certain all the bed bugs have been eliminated.

Vacuum

You should vacuum the whole room, including the bed and frame, the interior of dresser drawers, baseboards, molding, and window frames. Don't use the brush attachment since bed bugs can hide in the bristles to avoid being sucked in. Once you finish vacuuming, take out the bag and put it in a plastic bag. Close the bag securely to prevent the bed bugs from getting out then throw it outside in the garbage.

Firm Bristle Cleaning Brush

It's essential to tidy the whole area. Utilize a firm brush to make sure all eggshells and detached skins are loosened up to make it simpler to remove them. You don't have to scour the walls and roofs, but you should scrub along the skirting boards and around window frames.

Caulk

It is possible to use caulk to fill in any potential hiding spots for bed bugs in your home. This includes any gaps or crevices in baseboards, wall or floor pipes and wires, moldings, the headboard, and around window frames. Doing this can help keep any lingering bugs out of the room after it has been treated for bed bugs.
