When you reach out to us for help with eliminating bed bugs, there are certain actions you can take to ensure the treatment is effective. You need not fret, as you won't have to discard your belongings. However, you will need to carry out some preparations to safeguard your possessions and shield them from the threat of re-infestation. A checklist will be given to you to facilitate these measures. Here are a few examples of what you can expect to see on that list. Your Sleeping SpaceLet's begin by focusing on your sleeping spaces. Remove any items that may be lurking beneath your bed. Oftentimes, things accumulate in this area, making it the perfect opportunity to dispose of unwanted objects. For those items you plan on keeping, inspect them carefully for any pesky bed bugs. Next, strip down any bedding on your beds, sofas, cots, cribs, or other sleeping surfaces. It's important to wash all of these linens using high heat. Move your mattresses and box springs away from their frames and lean them against a wall. If you have any pull-out couches or folding cots, take the time to open them up in preparation for treatment. Ensure that your floors are free of clutter to avoid bed bugs hiding in them. Give your entire home a thorough sweep and vacuum. Any furniture with cloth upholstery should also be vacuumed. Don't forget to clean your baseboards using a vacuum attachment, as bed bugs could be lurking there. Check behind any picture frames or mirrors mounted on your walls for signs of bed bugs. If you do find any, take down these items and inform us of your findings when we arrive. Once you finish vacuuming, it's crucial to promptly dispose of the contents in a sealed bag. It's possible that you collected a few live bed bugs, so it's important to dispose of the vacuum bag quickly. Your Closet SpaceClosets Up Next! Now, let's move on to your closets. Take out all items, including those on the floor or in drawers, and launder them if possible. If some items cannot be laundered, place them on the room floor, and we'll leave them for treatment. Make sure to safely bag up all items that need laundering in plastic bags. Next, empty all dressers and bookshelves and inspect their contents. Any items that you can launder should be bagged up, and those that cannot be laundered should be placed on top of the dresser or cabinet for treatment. Don't forget to check all books for bed bugs, especially along the splines of hardcovers. Place your books in a pile on the floor. Finally, if you have suitcases, backpacks, or any other similar items, you can open them up and leave them for treatment. Preparing Your FurnitureFor the bed bug exterminator to reach the walls and baseboards, we require a minimum of 2 feet of space between them and your furniture. To achieve this, kindly shift the furniture towards the center of the room. Any items that are not being washed can also be placed in the central area for treatment. While your electronics can remain in place, make sure they are turned off and unplugged. However, if you have wall-mounted televisions, please remove them from the wall. A Quick Note About Your PetsAfter treatment, it's important to keep your pets out of the house for a full day. Be sure to wash any bedding or blankets your pets use. If you have fish, have a conversation with the bed bug exterminator. You might need to relocate the tank. Important Laundering Tip!It is crucial to take precautions when laundering your clothes to avoid bed bug infestations. It is recommended to assume that all laundry is contaminated and to wash everything in hot water, followed by a high-heat dryer cycle for at least 40 minutes at 49C. This method is effective in eliminating bed bugs, including their eggs. In cases where certain items cannot be laundered, consider running them through a hot dryer cycle or seeking out a dry cleaning service that handles bed bug infestations. Garment storage bags can also be useful in keeping laundered items separate from non-laundered ones, but be mindful of contamination. Ensure that cleaned items are securely sealed to prevent re-contamination. In ClosingThe aforementioned measures are not exhaustive. As your circumstances are distinct, there could be further groundwork necessary. However, don't feel daunted! Our bed bug eradicator will discuss with you all the necessary measures to undertake.
